Scouting for Food 2015 -- November 8

Scouting For Food (SFF) in 2015 is a two part event, November 8 (bag distribution) and November 14(collection of donations and taking to the two drop off sites).

Scouting For Food is an important service project where our scouts from all over the National Capitol Area go out and collect food donations for area food banks. Donations collected in Seneca District go to the Manna Food Bank in Rockville.  We also provide food to Gaithersburg Help, St. Martins Food Bank, Damascus Help among others.
It is imperative that each unit have a representative at the October Round Table to pick up their bags.  Please remember to provide contact information for your representative when picking up the bags and to mark on the maps WHERE your unit will be distributing/collecting.
Each unit is responsible for reporting the amount of food collected to our council.  To help with this effort, each unit must provide a COUNT OF THE NUMBER OF BAGS DROPPED OFF at the collection points listed below.  If your unit delivers food to a place other than the two locations below (which are delivered to Manna), then please provide an email to Phil Dennis with either the number of bags or total weight of food collected.  Further details will be provided.

Units should consider contacting their local homeowners associations where they live and inform them of the upcoming drive.

Not sure what you should donate? According to our friends at Capital Area Food Bank, some of the most highly needed items are:
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Canned protein (tuna, salmon, chicken, peanut butter)
  • Soups & stews (beef stew, chili, meat-based soups)
  • 100% fruit juices (all sizes)
  • Grains (pasta, whole grain pasta, rice, brown rice, boxed macaroni & cheese)
  • Cereals (multi grain, low sugar such as cheerios, cornflakes, raisin bran, grape nuts, oatmeal)
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned fruits
  • Condiments
  • Hygiene products (diapers, toilet paper, tissues, soap, toothpaste)

Bags may be dropped off on November 14 between 10am and 1pm at:
